Luxembourg, heart of Europe
Luxembourg is the only remaining Grand Duchy: a country ruled by a duke or duchess.
The country is trilingual, speaking French, German and Luxembourgish, a dialect of German.
The national motto, Mir wëlle bleiwe, war mir sin, means "We want to remain what we are".
With an area of 2,586 square kilometres, Luxembourg is about the same size as Lancashire.
Nearly half of Luxembourg’s 500,000 strong population are foreign nationals.
Luxembourg was named the European Capital of Culture in 2007.
